Step 1: Cleanse in the morning and evening.

Cleaning your skin is the most critical step in any skincare process.

Dr. Sandra Lee, or Dr. Pimple Popper, CEO of SLMD Skincare, advises that if your skin is oily, you can probably handle more washing.

“While most people should wash their faces morning and night,” Lee explains, “it’s especially vital for those with oily skin to cleanse their face thoroughly in the morning.”

Even if your skin appears to be clean from the night before, Lee claims that your skin is busily shedding skin cells and creating oils during the night.

As a result, exfoliating with a decent cleanser in the morning and evening is recommended.

She prefers to use a salicylic acid cleanser or wash.

“This will definitely assist wash away excess oil and dead skin to prevent pore buildup,” Lee adds.

Step 2: Make use of a toner.

After cleansing your skin and removing any makeup, grime, and oil, Lee recommends using an exfoliating toner that contains one of the following ingredients:

acid salicylic
lactic acid glycolic acid

Step 3: Take care of your skin.
This phase will be determined by your individual skin concerns. However, if you have acne, Lee recommends applying benzoyl peroxide or sulfur during the day to help reduce oil production and avoid breakouts.

Lee suggests using a retinol product in the evening to keep pores clear and skin shining.

BP Lotion, Sulfur Lotion, and Retinol Serum are some of her favorite treatment products from her skin care range.

Roc Retinol Correxion Night Cream, CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum, and Paula’s Choice 1 percent Retinol Booster are some more popular over-the-counter retinol products.

One brief word for those with oily skin: Lee believes that those with oily skin are actually fortunate.

“If you have more oils in your skin, you’re more likely to avoid wrinkles and fine lines for a longer period of time than someone who has dry skin,” she explains.

“Moisturizer is necessary for all skin types,” Lee explains, “but if you have oily skin, you should be more selective about the moisturizer you use.”

The first step in treating oily skin is to develop a daily skincare routine that works for you.

Once you’ve established this as a habit, you might wish to add other, less frequent stages to your routine, such as the ones listed below.

Blotting papers should be used.
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends using blotting papers to reduce excess oil if your skin appears to shine all day.

Gently press the paper against your skin for a few seconds to accomplish this. This should aid in the absorption of the majority of the oil. As needed, repeat throughout the day.

After you’ve completed your workout, wash your hands.
The AAD recommends cleaning your face after exercising in addition to your morning and nighttime routines. If you don’t plan on showering anytime soon, this is very vital.

Sweat, oil, and filth that may accumulate on your face when exercising can be removed by washing your face.

It doesn’t have to be a complicated four-step procedure. Apply a little layer of moisturizer after washing your face with your regular cleanser.

The sooner you can do this following your workout, the better.

Make intelligent product choices.
Dr. Adarsh Vijay Mudgil, the founder of Mudgil Dermatology in New York City, advises choosing skincare products carefully.

“Avoid alcoholic beverages since they can cause an unanticipated increase in oil secretion. Also, avoid anything thick or greasy like cocoa butter, shea butter, or Vaseline,” he suggests.

His favorite foamy face cleansers are CeraVe and Neutrogena.

When you’re outside, use sunscreen.
Use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 when heading outside.

To make things easier, apply a daily moisturizer with sunscreen to make sure you’re constantly protected.

Finally, but certainly not least

Sticking to a daily skincare routine is the best way to reduce breakouts and minimize shine if you have oily skin.

Morning and night, a daily skincare routine should involve washing, toning, treating, and moisturizing.

By using the right products, wearing sunscreen, using blotting papers, and washing your face after exercise, oily skin can be decreased and kept clear and healthy.
